Today, I discovered Davao’s largest hot spot; the SSID is linksys.’”

But as time went on however, I came to appreciate the subtle implications of this tagline—specifically, that most people do not take sufficient precautions to secure their wireless networks - All are in default mode.

Wireless networking is one of the most popular and fastest growing technologies on the market today. From home networks to enterprise-level wireless networks, people are eager to take advantage of the freedom and convenience that wireless networking promises.

However, while wireless networking is convenient, it is not always deployed securely.

Insecure wireless networks are found in people’s homes and in large corporations.

Because of these insecure deployments, war driving within the city became one of pastime I am able to determine what the security posture of an organization’s wireless network is, or to verify that a company has deployed its wireless network in a secure fashion. :)

Computers are a staple of everyday life.Technology that makes using computers easier and more fun needs to be available to everyone. Companies such as Linksys and D-Link have been very successful at making these new technologies easy for end users to set up and use.To do otherwise would alienate a large part of their target market.

Modify your AP’s/wifi routers settings.

It has been 5 months since I am browsing the internet using PLDT We Roam.

I have no problem on its service the way it caters my need like a vpn connection, but it seems I am having hard time finding a stable place where I could browse using EDGE connectivity… It is more often on UMTS… and can hardly open web pages….

Anyway, I think that’s the way it is… Must have a strong signal location to fully browse on a 3G speed .

I’ve been a fan of linux since Red Hat ver 7. I used it on my previous work as a radius authentication server for  those good old dial-up ISP way back 2001.

A lot has changed from Linux, I am using Ubuntu - fiesty fawn edition since its release and don’t have a hard time installing it. As far as my experience is concerned, I have no problem on Video display, Audio, my HP printer, webcam, internet, usb flash disk  and all other pheriperals connected to my rig.

Ubuntu startup screen

Startup screen of Ubuntu .

Good part is that there are so many support on softwares that are ready for download from editing video, editing audio, playing movies and mp3’s.

I already tried using wifi feature of Ubuntu  using  notebook and I have no problem connecting on hotspots area in the city.  One thing for sure on Linux  platform is that seldom no virus threatened this system - Almost none on my part - Great!

Almost all format of file extensions are applicable to ubuntu.. Even .exe file! Just use Windows emulator like Cedega or Wine.

Linux surely starts to evade desktop based computers and not just for servers anymore and it is more user friendly and is adapting windows based environment less blue screen of death! BSOD.

Aside from Ubuntu  as my primary OS I am still using Windows XP. Dual boot system.7

I am seeking for further improvement on our system process and perhaps find better or newer ways of doing things at the office.

Since our office is considered my second home and grounded on our oparations , I was required to submit at least two (2) ideas and is subject for possible implementation in the office and will be discussed in detail.

It took me a while to come up with this idea since our company has it all– Technology.

These are my ideas and innovations ( I got 3) :

  1. Annual review of all configurations both hardware and software.
  2. Web based journal that can be shared within the department, record what we are working on, or just scribble notes for future reference. Simply, list all hardware and software configurations that may be useful for future guide in installation, deployment procedures.
  3. WSUS, windows service update server . A service that collects a repository of updates and patches for windows operating system.

The question is will it be approved? or What if a have the same idea with my other ICT department personnel, was my ideas and innovation good enough?
